The advent of the data age is driven by emerging technologies that arise from, as well as contribute to, the exponential growth of data. The main emerging technologies are Edge Computing , 5G networks , Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and Blockchain.
These are the same technologies that almost half (49%) of those surveyed think they will use to harness the power of data. And yet, 66% of IT and business decision-makers indicate that half or more of their company's data is dark data (unexploited, unquantified, unused ), an increase of 10% compared to the previous year. 57% believe that the volume of data is already growing faster than their company's capacity to manage it. 47% recognize that their organization will not be able to cope with a rapid increase in data volume.
